The Nike Air Mag “Back to The Future”

One of the most hyped sneakers in history is the Nike Air Mag from the movie ‘Back to The Future’. The Nike Air Mag was first seen in the 1989 film ‘Back to The Future 2’. The main character, Marty McFly wears the futuristic Air Mags which light up and are auto lacing. After the movie came out many people especially ‘sneaker heads’ wanted a pair of the iconic sneakers. In 2008, Nike started the creation of the Air Mag and the idea of the auto lacing system. The sneakers would be released to the public 22 years after the movie came out. The Air Mags first released in 2011 through auction and only 1,500 pairs were made. Many sneaker heads were going to give up large amounts of money to get a pair of the Mags. Fans were happy with the release in 2011, but they were confused about why the Mags didn't have a certain feature that the Mags had in the movie. The 2011 Mags did not come with the auto lacing feature, which was the coolest feature of the whole Mag. It would take 5 years for the next release of the Mag and this time it would have the auto lacing feature. In 2016, Nike announced the release of the Nike Air Mag with the auto lacing feature. Nike would release only 89 pairs of the sneakers that came in only sizes 7,9,11, and 13. Nike made a raffle for the Mags that started on October 4, 2016 and ended on October 11, 2016. Each ticket costs $10.00 and all proceeds went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation that helped fight Parkison’s Disease. The Michael J. Fox Foundation raised $6.75 million from the Nike Air Mag raffle. A pair of Air Mags with the auto lacing system will cost from $50,000-$100,000 dollars. Celebrities like Lil Yachty, Chris Brown, and Seth Rogen have been seen wearing the Mags and have them in their sneaker collection. To a sneaker head, the Air Mag is the holy grail of all the sneakers; it is their dream to have these in their sneaker collection.
